U.S. natural gas prices soared the most in more than a year, erasing much of a recent decline, as end-of-month trading boosted volatility and forecasts for chillier weather revived concerns about tight supplies.

The 2020 Navigable Waters Protection Rule (NWPR), a Trump-era replacement to the Waters of the U.S. Rule (WOTUS), was vacated by U.S. District Judge Rosemary Márquez in Arizona on Aug. 30.

“The Department of the Interior (Interior) confirmed today that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has appealed the preliminary injunction entered by the district court in Louisiana v. Biden, which enjoined Interior from implementing the pause in new federal oil and gas leasing as set forth in Section 208 of Executive Order 14008. DOJ is appealing that decision to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Federal onshore and offshore oil and gas leasing will continue as required by the district court while the government’s appeal is pending.”

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed listing the species under the act, reversing course from a decision agency officials made several years ago that left the bird's fate in the hands of conservation programs adopted by nonprofits and businesses.
